On Sunday at church, Calvin's teacher asked if I would be willing to come and sit with Calvin in his class. I am so grateful that I did. He was actually being very good. Of course, he was squirmy but so were all the rest. He was listening to the lesson and answering questions. He is still very shy when it comes to getting up in front of the class to do a role play or something but I have to say that I was quite proud of him. As we were leaving, he said "It's a lot easier being good when your mom sits with you, huh."
He surprises me all the time with the things that he knows. He isn't a show off at all. Completely opposite of Brooklyn. I didn't know that he was reading small words at preschool until his parent teacher conference. So, I pulled out my beginning reader books and sure enough, he can do it. He's still very slow but he can do it.
My biggest fear was that he wasn't going to do well in school. I have been so afraid that I haven't even wanted to face it. I was so afraid of a major battle that I didn't even want try. How terrible is that. I feel like I am facing the real me and I'm not so sure I really like that. I had it all worked out before I had kids. They would be polite, sit still at church, blah, blah,blah... When it came down to it, I gave up way too soon. I am just so thankful for those who have been such a great influence to me. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

I'm so glad you posted this story. I laughed so hard when I overheard Calvin say that to you - and he was so genuine about it. He is a great kid! That's wonderful that he's reading already! How exciting.
