Calvin

On Sunday at church, Calvin's teacher asked if I would be willing to come and sit with Calvin in his class. I am so grateful that I did. He was actually being very good. Of course, he was squirmy but so were all the rest. He was listening to the lesson and answering questions. He is still very shy when it comes to getting up in front of the class to do a role play or something but I have to say that I was quite proud of him. As we were leaving, he said "It's a lot easier being good when your mom sits with you, huh."
He surprises me all the time with the things that he knows. He isn't a show off at all. Completely opposite of Brooklyn. I didn't know that he was reading small words at preschool until his parent teacher conference. So, I pulled out my beginning reader books and sure enough, he can do it. He's still very slow but he can do it.
My biggest fear was that he wasn't going to do well in school. I have been so afraid that I haven't even wanted to face it. I was so afraid of a major battle that I didn't even want try. How terrible is that. I feel like I am facing the real me and I'm not so sure I really like that. I had it all worked out before I had kids. They would be polite, sit still at church, blah, blah,blah... When it came down to it, I gave up way too soon. I am just so thankful for those who have been such a great influence to me. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

I sure hope that I've learned something

Such as when to ask for help. I remember when Calvin was a few weeks old and the Relief Society Presidency (Sue and Emily) came by with a cute little blanket. I was completely overwhelmed. Calvin was screaming in his crib and Brooklyn was in the bath. I should have asked for help. But do you think I did. Oh no, I could do it all. And have a mental breakdown too.

I sure hope that I've learned a little. If I call you in tears, come quickly!! I am seriously praying for a mellow child. I really need it. :)

12 years

Saturday was our 12 year anniversary. It was really great to be at the temple that morning. Thanks to the Primary for an awesome activity. If it wasn't for them, I probably would have spent then entire day in bed.

I was looking back over the years and I think my most favorite anniversary was our 10 year when we ran Moab's 1/2 marathon together. It was so fun to train together and then spend a few days without the kids in Moab. I hope we can do one again for our 15 year.

It's been way too long...Update

I did have one more problem with spotting. I wasn't too worried. I had an appointment scheduled to see my ob two days later. Which was awesome. He did a bedside ultrasound. The picture wasn't as good but the baby measured right on and we could see a heartbeat. Then my doctor told me I could come in every two weeks to ease my mind.

We decided to tell our families. I ordered fortune cookies with the message inside. The messages were: The Fagergren's will have great joy in their growing posterity, October will bring a new little spook to the Fagergren family, and Brian and Kim will be adding to their family on October 15, 2008. I took my parents to lunch at a Chinese place. At the end of the meal, Calvin and I handed my parents the fortune cookies. They thought that it was weird that we brought our own. When they read them, my mom said "Oh, that's so cute that they put your names in them." It didn't even ring a bell. She was so funny. My dad got it but didn't think he was right because we didn't think we'd be able to have anymore so he didn't say anything. My mom was so funny. She thought that it was something Brian's family had done. I had to tell her. "Mom, I'm pregnant." She was so shocked and excited. She said that it didn't even cross her mind. We laughed for a long time. She's great. I love her so much. I am so fortunate to have a great relationship with her.

We called Brian's parents and asked them if they wanted to get together for Chinese take out for family home evening. After dinner, Brooklyn brought out the fortune cookies. Brian's dad got the message that tells you: Brian and Kim... He smiled and told Sandra to open her fortune cookie. She did and got the "October spook" one. She looked at Brooklyn and asked her if she knew what was going on. Then she and Paul traded fortunes. They were so excited for us. It was a great way to tell. They know that we have always wanted more but that our chances were slim.

I had an ultrasound yesterday morning (8 weeks 6 days). The baby measured 9 weeks 1 day. It looked like a jelly bean. Fitting that Easter is around the corner. I called my mom who was working down in the other side of the hospital. She came up and saw the ultrasound with me. I took Calvin with me. I thought he would like to see the baby. We had to wait for 45 mins. He was so patient but he was done and didn't even want to look. It's ok though, I showed him the pictures and explained what it was. He's a boy who isn't really interested. I think he's a little bit worried about what's going to happen. He's excited but very leery.
